Inside the Craft: What Makes David G. Flatt Stand Out

At David G. Flatt, every project begins with a conversation and evolves through collaboration. We’re a full-service design and fabrication workshop built on one guiding principle: design should be personal, practical, and deeply hands-on. From early sketches to final installation, our team works closely with clients to create spaces and experiences that feel truly custom. Here’s how we do it.

A True Hands-On Partnership

We don’t just take orders, we collaborate. Each project begins with an in-depth consultation to understand design goals, space requirements, and brand identity. From there, our designers develop detailed drawings and 3D renderings that bring ideas into focus. Clients are part of every step, reviewing concepts, giving feedback, and refining designs together. This hands-on approach ensures the final result reflects a shared vision, not just a design brief.

From Blueprint to Build, Under One Roof

Our workshop handles design, drafting, fabrication, and installation all in-house, so communication stays fluid, and creative energy never gets lost in translation. Our carpenters and fabricators work directly from the same drawings our design team creates, allowing quick adjustments and precise craftsmanship. This seamless process keeps projects efficient, consistent, and true to concept.

Deep Experience in Retail and Trade Show Design

Our team’s decades of experience in retail and trade show environments means we understand what draws attention and what works behind the scenes. Whether it’s a modern retail display or a full-scale exhibit booth, we design for durability, ease of installation, and visual impact. Each element is thoughtfully engineered to perform under real-world conditions.

Designer Furniture Rentals, Tailored to Every Event

Our designer trade show furniture rentals go beyond aesthetic appeal. Each collection is curated to complement diverse layouts and branding needs, offering flexibility without compromising on style. Need guidance choosing the right pieces? We provide layout drawings and setup suggestions so every booth feels cohesive and functional.

Long-Term Support and Storage Solutions

We know great design doesn’t end after one event. That’s why we offer ongoing storage, maintenance, and reconfiguration services to help clients get the most out of their builds. Our team stores each piece safely, updates components when needed, and assists with redeployment for future events or activations.

Driven by a Love of Design

Our motivation is simple: we love great design and the people who make it happen. Every client collaboration is a chance to innovate, experiment, and build something that leaves an impression.

See What’s Possible

From concept consultations to final installation, David G. Flatt delivers more than just fabrication; we deliver a partnership rooted in creativity, expertise, and care. Ready to start building something extraordinary? Connect with our team or explore more about our process.

Coterie September 2025 Recap

Coterie September 2025 brought another inspiring season of contemporary fashion to the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. The show continues to be a cornerstone event for apparel and accessories brands looking to connect with buyers, press, and industry leaders.

For our team at David G. Flatt Exhibits, this season represented a diverse range of collaborations and builds across the show floor.

Brands We Supported

This year we partnered with an incredible lineup of designers, including AFRM, Amanda Uprichard, Dolce Vita, Dress To, Jude Connally, Lamarque, Melissa Nepton, Michael Stars, Pistola, Place, Prosperina, Queen of Sparkles, and Varley.

Each booth was a fully custom build, designed and fabricated in our Long Island City shop. Every detail was tailored to reflect the unique identity of each brand, from color and layout to materials and lighting.

Craftsmanship and Custom Design

Our in-house team handled every stage of production, including CNC cutting, millwork, finishing, delivery, and installation. From minimalist white oak shelving to sleek accent walls, each booth was designed to highlight the collection on display while maintaining a cohesive show aesthetic.

A standout detail this season was the Pistola booth, which featured a custom light-up logo that brought extra depth and visibility across the show floor.

Turnkey Installation at the Javits Center

All booths were delivered, installed, and finalized by our team prior to show opening. This turnkey approach allows clients to simply arrive, merchandise their products, and focus on their presentations.

The show ran smoothly from start to finish, and client feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Our coordinated logistics and attention to detail continue to simplify the trade show process for fashion brands exhibiting in New York.

Looking Ahead to 2026

With Coterie September 2025 complete, our team is already preparing for the next season of events. We’ll be supporting brands at Curve 2026, Magic Las Vegas 2026, Magic New York 2026, and Coterie 2026.  Each an opportunity to build upon the creativity and craftsmanship showcased this fall.

Custom White Oak Shelving Units for Dolce Vita at Coterie

At the September Coterie show in New York City, we partnered with Dolce Vita to bring their booth vision to life. Our team designed and built custom shelving units that combined clean aesthetics with practical functionality. Crafted from white oak and finished with precision, these shelves provided both durability and flexibility for the brand’s display needs.

Designing for Flexibility

For a brand like Dolce Vita, adaptability on the trade show floor is essential. Their product mix shifts each season, and the shelving needed to reflect that. We developed a system of removable shelves that could be adjusted or reconfigured on site. This gave their team the freedom to highlight footwear, accessories, or apparel without being locked into a rigid display.

Materials That Match the Brand

We chose white oak for its timeless appearance and strength. The pale tone and natural grain provided a clean backdrop that complemented Dolce Vita’s modern collections, while still offering warmth to the overall booth environment. By pairing a neutral material palette with precise joinery, the shelving became both a functional structure and a design feature.

The Build Process

Every unit was fabricated in our Long Island City workshop. Our millwork team carefully milled, assembled, and finished each piece, ensuring consistency across the entire set of shelves. The removable components were tested repeatedly for stability and ease of installation. This attention to detail allowed the final delivery to be seamless, with the shelving arriving show-ready.

On the Show Floor

Once installed at Coterie, the shelving elevated Dolce Vita’s booth by balancing form and function. The units framed the products while keeping the space open and inviting. The flexibility paid off immediately, as the brand’s team could rearrange displays during the show without compromising style or structure.

Sylvia: Standing Out in a Sea of Standard

How Sylvia’s Custom Booth Dominated the USA Gymnastics Trade Show

When hundreds of exhibitors converge at a major trade show, the challenge isn’t just being present—it’s being unforgettable. At the recent USA Gymnastics Trade Show in New Orleans, our client Sylvia proved that investing in a fully custom booth isn’t just smart marketing—it’s essential for serious business growth.

The Sea of Sameness

Walking through the exhibit hall in New Orleans, visitors encountered row after row of standard pipe-and-drape setups and basic pop-up displays. While these cookie-cutter solutions might save money upfront, they also guarantee one thing: invisibility. In an industry where first impressions can make or break business relationships, blending into the background is the kiss of death.

Sylvia understood this from day one.

Custom Design, Custom Results

Our team worked closely with Sylvia to create a booth that didn’t just showcase their products—it told their story. Every element was purposefully designed to reflect their brand values and connect with their target audience of gymnastics coaches, gym owners, and equipment buyers.

The impact was immediate:

  • Increased foot traffic: While neighboring booths struggled to draw visitors, Sylvia’s custom space created natural stopping points that encouraged exploration
  • Extended conversations: The thoughtfully designed layout provided comfortable spaces for meaningful discussions, turning quick glances into qualified leads
  • Professional credibility: The polished, custom appearance instantly communicated that Sylvia is an established, serious player in the gymnastics industry
  • Photo opportunities: Attendees naturally wanted to photograph and share images of the striking booth, extending Sylvia’s reach beyond the show floor

The Power of Being Different

What struck us most during the three-day event was how Sylvia’s booth became a landmark. Other exhibitors were giving directions like “we’re two booths down from the big custom setup” and attendees were using it as a meeting point. This kind of organic brand recognition is impossible to achieve with standard displays.

The custom booth also allowed Sylvia to:

  • Properly showcase their full product line without cramming everything into a small space
  • Create distinct areas for different types of conversations
  • Incorporate interactive elements that engaged visitors
  • Display their brand personality in three dimensions

Investment vs. Expense

While a fully custom booth requires a larger upfront investment than standard options, Sylvia’s results prove it’s not an expense—it’s a multiplier. The booth has already paid for itself through the connections made and deals initiated in New Orleans, and it will continue generating returns at future shows.

More importantly, the booth positions Sylvia as a premium brand worth doing business with. In an industry where trust and reliability are paramount, looking the part is half the battle.

The Competitive Advantage

As we packed up after the show, it was clear that Sylvia had achieved something their competitors hadn’t: they had become the memorable exhibitor. While other companies blended into the background noise of the trade show floor, Sylvia’s investment in custom booth design had transformed them into the obvious choice for serious buyers.

In a world where standing out is increasingly difficult, sometimes the best strategy is also the most straightforward: be willing to do what others won’t.

How Did LO&CO Stand Out at ICFF with a Custom Trade Show Booth?

The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) is one of the most influential design events in the world, drawing top architects, interior designers, and product manufacturers. For LO&CO, it was an opportunity to showcase their innovative approach to design and make a lasting impression. Our team built a custom trade show booth that reflected their refined aesthetic and positioned their brand for maximum impact at this high-profile event.

Understanding LO&CO’s Vision

LO&CO wanted more than just a standard booth. They needed a branded trade show experience that captured their design philosophy and engaged industry leaders. The goal was to create a welcoming, design-forward space that invited visitors to explore and connect with their products in a meaningful way.

Designing for the ICFF Audience

ICFF attendees expect cutting-edge trade show booth design with attention to detail and craftsmanship. Every element of the LO&CO booth had to align with their premium brand image while standing out in a hall full of world-class designers. Our design approach focused on:

  • Clean Lines and Modern Materials: A combination of sleek finishes and natural textures to complement LO&CO’s product collection.
  • Functional Flow: An open, accessible layout that guided attendees naturally through display areas.
  • Brand Messaging: Strategic signage and integrated lighting to reinforce LO&CO’s identity throughout the booth.

The Build Process

We began by meeting with LO&CO to understand their goals for ICFF and how their booth needed to perform on the show floor. Our team suggested strategic design adjustments to improve efficiency and ease of installation without compromising their vision.

Once LO&CO approved the shop drawings and 3D renders, our millwork shop built each component with precision and care. This streamlined process ensured the booth was ready for a smooth, efficient installation and a flawless show debut.

The Result at ICFF

The completed booth captured attention, driving steady visitor traffic and encouraging interaction with the LO&CO product line. By combining custom trade show booth design with high-quality craftsmanship, LO&CO made a lasting impression at ICFF and strengthened its position as a forward-thinking design brand.

A custom trade show booth is more than just a temporary display. It is an extension of a company’s brand identity and values. For LO&CO at ICFF, our team delivered a design-driven solution that elevated their presence and connected them with an audience that values innovation and quality.

At David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd., we craft exhibits that leave a lasting impression. Our work lives on in photos, press, and memory long after the show floor clears. Here are seven standout events where we’ve designed and built custom booths that left a lasting impact.

Coterie: Where Fashion and Form Meet

We keep returning to Coterie for one reason—fashion deserves a setting as strong as the brands behind it. From sculptural product displays to elegant backdrops, our booths are designed to feel like permanent retail installations. Each season, we evolve with our clients, showcasing apparel with fresh layouts that blend minimalism and sophistication. Clean lines, natural textures, and built-in lighting set the tone for clothing lines to shine.

ICFF 2025: Turning a Swatch Book Into an Architectural Statement

At ICFF, we helped Submaterial transform their signature swatch booklet into a full-scale architectural experience. Angled walls and modular panels echoed the visual rhythm of their products while maximizing a limited footprint. The left wall mirrored the layout of Material Bank’s sample book; the center featured a 6×6 full-scale Diade module. With pre-installed artwork and cork accents adding warmth, this booth became a tactile, walkable brand story.

BDNY: Elevating Art with Structure

When Wendover Art Group took on BDNY, they needed a booth that felt like a curated gallery. We built a striking entrance with textured wallpaper, strategically installed their brand’s logo, and framed their lighting elements with custom-built platforms. Each piece of art was positioned for maximum visual impact. From bold signage to the last lightbulb, everything was about immersion, identity, and flow.

ScentXplore: The Fragrance of Design

At ScentXplore, an immersive fragrance experience required more than a standard exhibit. We crafted booth environments that enhanced the brand narratives of niche perfume houses through lighting control, layered textures, and intimate layout design. The goal wasn’t just to display—it was to guide visitors through scent stories. From subtle wall treatments to isolated testing zones, every space was a mood.

One Fine Day Bridal Market: Romance Meets Function

Designing for One Fine Day Bridal Market meant striking a balance between delicacy and durability. Our booths showcased bridal collections with elegance, featuring flowing fabrics, soft color palettes, and elegant framework, while still holding up through long hours and heavy foot traffic. We engineered clean lines and seamless surfaces to serve as a graceful canvas for gowns and accessories. It’s romantic, but also reliable.

Explore the event throughout the years:

New York Vet: Healing Spaces with Purpose

For Bond Vet’s booth at the New York Vet trade show, we combined clinical clarity with inviting warmth. The space needed to feel approachable to veterinary professionals while showcasing Bond Vet’s modern, urban aesthetic. We built sleek, white partitions layered in wood tones and incorporated their signature branding through signage and graphics. The booth featured a balanced mix of consultation zones and product displays, creating a professional yet welcoming environment. Thoughtful lighting and modular elements ensured that it was not only beautiful but also easy to disassemble and reuse.

USA Gymnastics National Congress & Trade Show: Movement with Poise

Sylvia P needed a booth that captured athleticism and grace. We delivered with a high-energy layout tailored for bold product display and interactive flow. Eye-catching graphics and purposeful lighting helped elevate gymnastics apparel while maintaining a clean, approachable aesthetic. Every design choice—from structural support to branding moments—was carefully crafted to reflect performance and confidence. This wasn’t just a vendor setup; it was a performance stage of its own.

The Running Event: Where Form Meets Function

Falke’s presence at The Running Event required a booth that matched the pace of the audience—retailers, athletes, and gear specialists. We created a sleek, modular structure with visual clarity, streamlined product walls, and open pathways for demo flow. Visitors needed to interact quickly and efficiently, so we engineered balance: enough space to explore without slowing down the experience. Bold signage, clean shelving, and purposeful lighting let Falke’s gear speak for itself.

Build a Booth That Tells a Story

Your exhibit should do more than show up—it should speak, move, and linger in memory. At David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd., we make booths that reflect the soul of your brand. ICFF 2025: Inside the Submaterial Booth Build

Submaterial’s presence at ICFF 2025 was made unforgettable thanks to a uniquely engineered booth, constructed in collaboration with David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the process and standout design elements that brought this vision to life—straight from the trade show floor at New York’s Javits Center.

Precision Engineering for a Modular Design Language

Submaterial’s product line is deeply modular, so the booth had to reflect that. To support this, David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd. created custom corners and angled walls that gave the installation a more intimate feel while cleverly maximizing the small footprint. The left side of the booth echoed the scale and layout of Submaterial’s swatch booklet from Material Bank, while the central wall displayed a full-scale 6×6 module of their Diade series. From a single tile to full compositions, the entire booth was an extension of Submaterial’s design philosophy.

From Studio to Show Floor: Pre-Installation in the Shop

To ensure a smooth setup during the short trade show window, all artwork was pre-installed at David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd.’s shop. This included mounting, testing configurations, repackaging, and delivering the full installation to the ICFF floor. This behind-the-scenes precision dramatically reduced on-site stress and setup time. After the show, the Flatt team dismantled everything and transported it back to their facility—a full-service experience from start to finish.

Material Innovation on Display

Submaterial used ICFF as an opportunity to debut pieces that played with new material combinations. While they’re known for felt-based wall art, this year’s booth featured cork both as a backing and surface element. This added warmth and tactility to their display, helping the textures speak for themselves in a high-traffic environment. Every component—from the smallest swatch to the largest wall panel—was chosen for contrast, scale, and clarity.

Scaling a Booklet into Architecture

One of the most distinctive features of the booth was its visual reference to Submaterial’s swatch book. Designed originally for Material Bank, this vertical booklet was expanded into an architectural concept. By scaling the swatches into wall-mounted samples, visitors could immediately grasp how each texture and component related to the final product. It also gave Submaterial’s team a practical tool for storytelling, pointing out modular combinations and customization options with ease.

Angles That Invite, Not Intimidate

Photo Creds: Jenna Bascom Photography

Rather than using standard right angles, David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd.’s team fabricated slanted walls to create an inviting, gallery-like enclosure. This angled configuration provided privacy for discussion without fully closing the space off. Plus, it created additional surfaces for display—both inside the booth and on the outward-facing walls. The result: a high-functioning space that felt like a showroom, not just a display.

Design Collaboration Done Right

After the show, the David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd., team returned to dismantle and safely transport the booth elements back to the shop. This closeout phase was part of their white-glove, end-to-end service, ensuring that everything could be reused, repurposed, or reinstalled in the future.

Submaterial didn’t have to worry about teardown logistics, freight handling, or repackaging. They could focus on what they do best: designing heirloom-quality products.

One Fine Day Bridal Market 2025: A Closer Look Behind the Scenes

The One Fine Day Bridal Market, April 2025, brought together the best in bridal fashion under one beautifully curated roof. From couture gowns to intimate fittings, every aspect of the experience was refined, thoughtful, and inspiring. What truly made this year’s show stand out wasn’t just what was on the racks, but the atmosphere crafted behind the scenes. David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd., played a vital role in shaping the event’s look and feel, providing custom racks, booth walls, dressing rooms, and spatial flow that elevated the experience for designers and buyers alike.

Creating the Perfect Bridal Backdrop

Each booth space was brought to life using clean, modern wall systems that created individualized experiences for every designer. These weren’t just blank partitions. They were the canvas for brand expression, serving as subtle yet strong storytelling tools. Dressing rooms were built directly into the booth layouts, allowing models to transition smoothly between fittings and showings without disrupting the flow of traffic. With thoughtful design, the entire venue felt both unified and personalized—every wall, a quiet contributor to a louder fashion narrative.

Form Meets Fitting Room: Practical Elegance in Motion

Good design should look effortless, and function even better. David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd’s racks and fixtures did just that. Built for maximum visibility and movement, every structure was placed with intention. Buyers could easily browse entire collections without digging through crowded rails. Designers could rearrange displays with minimal hassle. This efficiency wasn’t just about logistics; it helped maintain the high-end feel of the show by removing the friction from the viewing experience. Less clutter. More clarity. Better sales.

Designer Vows: A Collective of Couture Visionaries

From established names like Anna Kara, Elizabeth Lee, and Hera Couture to emerging designers carving out new territory, this year’s market was packed with talent. What made the visual presentation so effective was the way each booth had its own unique feel while still fitting into the overall layout of the venue. David G. Flatt, LTD’s modular approach meant no two booths looked alike, yet they all felt cohesive. The result? A showroom experience that flowed beautifully from designer to designer, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in each brand’s distinct aesthetic.

Naturally Lit, Professionally Shot: A Photographer’s Dream Venue

The venue itself was bright and airy, but it was the design of the space that allowed natural light to work its magic. White wall panels enhanced the light quality, creating a clean background that made gowns pop without overpowering them. This thoughtful lighting setup paid off in the photography as well. Bianca from By Bianco captured the show with editorial elegance, and her photos told the story of a market that was as beautiful as it was functional. From delicate veils to dramatic silhouettes, every detail was lit to perfection.

The Lookbook Comes to Life: Shopping with Intention

With David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd.’s user-friendly display systems, designers could showcase a wide range of styles and quickly adjust the layout to highlight trending pieces or collection heroes. Racks were spaced for easy flipping, inventory could be reorganized on the fly, and nothing felt overly staged. This flexibility empowered designers to meet buyers where they were and adjust to the market’s mood in real time. That’s the kind of agile setup that drives real results.

Where Gowns Meet Grounded Moments: Lounges That Breathe

Between shows, buyers and designers found spaces to sit, relax, and connect. Neutral-toned seating areas featuring soft textures and clean lines invited conversation without disrupting the aesthetic. These rest areas were more than just functional—they were essential. In an industry that’s fast-paced and detail-driven, the ability to pause and interact in a comfortable space adds value beyond the visual. David G. Flatt Furniture, Ltd. understands this balance and integrates comfort seamlessly into their layout philosophy.
